|
|
Johnny Depp is a beautiful, handsome, good looking man. This cannot really be argued against. However good looks always cause trouble for actors. Why?
It is a common belief among some people that certain actors rise to fame just because of their good looks, and not because of their talent. It is also a fact that every actor is hated by someone, and these someone usually pick the most obvious and simple reason for hating that actor. If he actor happens to be good looking, the looks are an easy thing to blame. Also the cause for this are the fans who concentrate on talking about how good looking the actor is. The haters are often confused, they think that the fans are fans just because of the looks of the actor.
In most cases they are wrong.
I am sure all of you have seen some actors or actresses who look gorgeous, but who never made it, or gathered anyones sympathy, or got any fans to follow them. This is because these actors or actresses lack the star quality, the charisma, the personality, the talent. I would argue that nobody rises to superstar status with good looks alone. It is much more complex than that.
In Johnny's case, he has always been conscious that he looks good, and he has tried to shed this image in his movies by choosing roles where he is under heavy makeup, wigs, false teeth, bald caps, accents, etc. He has never tried to cash in with his good looks. For example the Edward Scissorhands case: Johnny Depp was willing and anxious to do the role under heavy make up, with scars and everything, but Tom Cruise (so the legend goes anyway) didn't want to shed his boyish good looks by all that makeup. Ironic, since Tom Cruise isn't even half as good looking as Johnny Depp to begin with.
Johnny Depp has much more than good looks, he has charisma and star quality, he has sense of humour and ability to adapt to different roles. Most of all he isn't too worried about how he looks on screen, something that many of the smug Hollywood stars are guilty of. But if we accept and realise all this, I think we can safely discuss about his good looks, post pictures about how cute or hot he looks and so on, without looking silly.
So, this forum "I love Depp" is for that use, and for the use of love letters.... general jumping around blabbing about Johnny etc.
In this topic, feel free to discuss these things I talked about, what do you think about his looks and how they affect his acting career, role choices, fans, fame bla bla. |

I won´t please any fangirls saying in movies he probably looked the best as Raoul Duke. that´s my opinion.
What is good looks in a movie is not the same in real life I guess. _________________ "We´re friends of Debbies´." |

I do think Johnny Depp belongs to these people who know what it's like to stand all in publicity, and those people who really bear up in that business are people who know how to just be theirselves. Love would not exist without hate and hate would not exist without love, so it is just naturally there are people who love him and people who hate him, there will always be those, but the best way to keep away from that conflict is just to be oneself, and in this case it means johnny depp, and I think he does it very good... I do not think he takes roles such as Jack Sparrow to get away his "good looling image", but because he always did take such roles, edward scissorhands, etc. so... yeah
oh well what was I actually talking about.. _________________ knock knock |

What Mr Phibes wrote is very true.
I think he's very good-looking guy. And if I knew him personally I would definetely go to parties with him, he would attract all girls (like a bait), I would stick to him all the time, surrounded by girls with bigger chances to pick one of them than if I were alone. |

| I know a hell of alot ppl who just dont see him as fit, gorgeous etc. There reasons for this is because hes different abit on the rough side. BUt to me that makes him more appealing, edgy, it makes him, him! |

Ok I don't care if I'm not as intelligeble (my dumb word) as everyone else on this site but I am 13 so I don't want to be smart and I'm gonna say JOHNNY DEPP IS HOT. End of story good bye the end. _________________ Master of Depptology (I wish!) |

he has the most wonderful ....boots ! ahh, my mom trhew away my similar boots that were merely 9 years old. that is so unfair, especially considering what pain it is going to shop for boots and shoes. Johnny wears his pair for how long? almost effin 18 years ! and they look FINE.
how come HE can and I cant? eh? _________________ "We´re friends of Debbies´." |

I want a picture of (younger and less fuzzy) Tim Curry, Johnny Depp, and Marilyn Manson all in drag. THAT would be hot. That would be like, L.A. sidewalk in summer. |

Speaking of which, what do you think, could we have a small picture of you on the site with your "10 things I hate about Depp" article? I have this in my mind... there is a picture of Jim who is smiling (annoyingly?) , and his "10 things I hate.." article, accompanied by Marek's responses, and a picture of him (fayansiarz) looking grim and menacing (I know just the right one, one of those you have posted at the Collective)
This would great quite a fun dramatic effect I think, and give faces to these opinions.... plus I think the amount of fanmail would be much larger. Then in relation to these we would have the Fanmail section, where both of you guys could reply to the fanmail (or hatemail) you get, if there is any.
But I understand if you don't want to, cause the fans might be dangerous, if they find out your real identity. (not seriously though...) |

I found a story that has to do with the notion that some actors are famous because they are attractive:
In one of my films they had a young bit player who was very pretty, but a terrible actress. However, she was very ambitious and decided that if she got some experience in the theater, it would help her career. Fortunately, she had a wealthy boyfriend who backed a road company of The Diary of Anne Frank just so she could play the leading role — Anne Frank.
Before the opening in Cleveland, Ohio, they had three weeks of intensive rehearsals, and every day was more and more frustrating for the director. The actress was impossible. She couldn't remember her lines, her delivery was amateurish, and the more she rehearsed, the worse she got. The director was ready to quit the show, but she told him she was a poor rehearser. "Believe me," she assured him, "when I face that opening-night audience, it'll all come together."
She invited me to the opening night, but I was not all that anxious to see her perform, and I had even less desire to be in Cleveland in February. A friend of hers and mine did go, and later he told me what I'd missed.
When the curtain went up she blew her opening lines, and her performance went downhill from then on. By the intermission the audience was totally fed up with her. Then, in the first scene in the second act, when the Nazi soldiers broken into the home, overturning furniture and shouting, "Where is she? Where's Anne Frank?!" the whole audience yelled back, "She's in the attic!" _________________ Pintel: ...you know you can't read.

| His looks aren't so important to me, but he does bring a certain presence to his movies with his physical looks... so it is important. If he looked like Steve Buscemi, he wouldn't be able to play the roles that he does so convincingly. But I love Steve Buscemi as well. |

Johnny Depp is a wonderfully versitile actor!! He can play any role, under any amount of make up,or lack there of, in any kind of set with any kind of script and make you believe that this is a very real person. He can make you laugh, cry, swoon or cream your jeans just by the way he looks into the camera. It's almost like he is looking AT YOU instead of the camera.
I am only sorry that it took me so long to realize this, I would of been having wet dreams about JD along time ago. How ever I am making up for that by looking up every thing I can about him on the internet. I get anoyed when I can't find any thing about him in the scandle sheets, not that I'd want to read about a scandle, but there is alot of stuff about other actors in them, why not put more in about Johnny?
I think that he lives such a low key life and doesn't like the Hollywood hype that there is nothing to write about him. The scandle sheets would love to find some thing juicy to gossip about him but they have no ammo and he gives them none.
In my opinion he is such a down to earth person that if more actors were like him then Hollywood would be a much better place, not to mention friendly. I have never met JD, I would give my eyes just to see him once and touch his hand, after that I could die cuzz I would have nothing else to live for. Execpt my God of course, but if God would let me meet Johnny He could take me away happy. _________________ "Hide the rum!!!"

| Johnny is undoubtably beautitful but much of his beauty comes from the inside. If he was just a prewtty face (like say...Orlando Bloom) I would have lost interest a long time a go. In fact, I'd probably not have had much interest in the first place. If I just wanted to look at the pretty people, I'd go and drool over male models or something. |

The thing about Johnny is, he is not only gorgeous but he has real talent. There are a lot of good looking actors that I never give a second thought, mostly because they act like idiots or are stuck on themselves. Johnny really doesnt see how beautiful he is and he loves acting, he's humble, sweet and caring and that makes him what he is. _________________

umm... me and my two girlfriends caught the tail end of this tv show called "hottest 40 over 40." it was a countdown of the hottest celebrities that were past the age of 40. we saw from about #12 to #1. anyway, of course johnny depp made it on #2. my two friends sat there just staring at the screen when one of them said, "i don't even think he's that attractive. do you?" the other one said, "no, not really. i mean, as a pirate he is... but otherwise no." and then, "yeah, when they put that makeup on him he's good, but i don't think he's that cute."
they just don't understand. _________________

ye its true, I know so many people, like my sister and like 12 of my freinds whoo were like swooning over Orlando Bloom and got bored after a week or somthing.
I never stop thinking about him one second of the day, which makes it a bit hard to concentrate when your seeing sexy images of his sweet sexy macho and manly features, but who really cares when it Johnny?
I certainly don't.
The first time I even saw him on screen my heart like almost literally jumped out of my mouth.
oh and are you gay? i mean Drink up me hearties Yoho. are you?
like I mean I have no problem with it, I'm just curious.
I would bang Johnny any day. |

so i'm sitting here alone, on the middle of my couch. i popped in (the recently bought for $5) secret window. mort rainey and his almost-ex-wife are going over their assets after their house burned down. i pop over to one of my favorite johnny sites to see the new pictures of him playing with The Kids in florida.
i came across this one and i have to ask...
has john-john been working out? look at his arms! i think my toungue just rolled out onto my laptop. what do y'all think? _________________

UK Cosmopolitan voted Johnny Depp as the #1 Sexiest Man Alive. The #2 spot was give to George Clooney, followed by Jake Gyllenhaal at #3.
Rock on, Johnny!
I find it funny that a lot of international magazines follow mostly American stars rather than their own. What's so great about American men? Oh yeah, we pop out people like Johnny Depp.
Well that makes sense. _________________

OH MY GOSH, REDFOX... this is so crazy. i totally watched that last night, but i hadn't posted it yet. it's so weird we both watched it around the same time, because nowadays celebrity deathmatch is kind of obscure... i just randomly thought of it and wondered if they ever had johnny on the show. it was pretty funny though. i knew orlando would lose and johnny's impersonation was silly. although the ed wood voice was kind of good! _________________

he did have a good suit at the Globes but he still looked like a hobo.
how come he looks so.... kind of.... like a surrealist sculpture in the wind?
he does look healthy, at least, and thats what counts. the years will not eat him up.
and he kept touching his hair. I guess even he cant believe washing it every once in a while can feel so damn nice. _________________ "We´re friends of Debbies´." |
